Hahn & Hahn Stellenbosch is managed by Pieter Venter and is supported by the staff in the Pretoria office. Apart from Intellectual Property matters, Pieter also specializes in Technology Transfer, License, and Software Development agreements.

Pieter holds B.Sc., B.Sc.(Hons), M.Sc. degrees in chemistry and an LLB degree. He is a director at Hahn & Hahn, qualified attorney and patent attorney. Pieter joined Hahn & Hahn in 2001 and deals with all aspects of intellectual property law and is involved in patent litigation, the drafting and prosecution of local foreign patent applications, trademarks, plant breeders rights issues and applications. Pieter also handles commercial aspects regarding intellectual property such as licensing and technology transfer agreements and is a past president of the South African Chapter of The Licensing Executives Society. In addition to Intellectual Property matters, Pieter also drafts agreements related to technology such as Software Development and Service Level agreements (SLA).

Madelein holds B. Sc Eng. (Chemical), B.Proc, LLB, LLM (tax); PhD (Intellectual Property). She is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa and a patent attorney. She has more than 27 years’ experience in commercial and corporate IP. Madelein’s main areas of expertise include IP Portfolio management, IP Due Diligence, IP policy and strategy development and implementation, she regularly advises on corporate governance and IP risk management and specialises in drafting, negotiating and advising on IP-related commercial business transactions, including technology transfer and licensing and associated Exchange Control approvals.

She is a member of the SAIIPL (South African Institute of Intellectual Property Lawyers) and also the editor of the SAIIPL newsletter IP Briefs™. She is a member of INTA (International Trademark Association) and CCASA (Corporate Counsel Association of South Africa), ACS (American Chemical Society) and SARIMA ( Southern African Research & Innovation Management Association). She is also member of LES (License Executive Society of South Africa - immediate past president) and the Chair of the LES International Patent and Technology licensing Committee. Madelein was included in the IAM Strategy 300 – The World’s Leading IP Strategists since 2015 and featured in WTR300 World’s leading trademark professionals since 2016.
